Kurt Schrader for Congress

Salem Statesman-Journal Endorses Kurt Schrader for Congress

"Schrader Obvious and Best Choice for Congress"

(Oregon City, OR) – Senator Kurt Schrader (D-Canby) has been endorsed today by The Statesman Journal, one of Oregon's leading newspapers.

The Statesman Journal praised Schrader's experience, "As a state senator, Schrader has been the co-chairman of the Legislature's budget-writing committee. His work in performance-based budgeting, as well as his role in helping guide state government through its 2001-02 belt-tightening, would be good for Congress."

The Statesman Journal compared Schrader to his opponent Mike Erickson. "His broad, deep experience is in sharp contrast to Erickson, who has never held elected office. Erickson did not respond to several requests to meet with the Statesman Journal Editorial Board and to answer a questionnaire."

"I am proud that The Statesman Journal has confidence in my leadership and recognizes my accomplishments in the legislature," said Schrader. "I am saddened that Mike Erickson is busy trying to buy this election with negative commercial TV attacks. People who listen to my plans for Oregon recognize that I am the best choice to represent them in Congress."

The Statesman Journal also added "Schrader seems well-qualified to follow the lead of the retiring incumbent, fellow Democrat Darlene Hooley, who has acted more as a centrist than as an ideologue. That trait could be why a number of Republicans have endorsed Schrader." Republican State Senator Frank Morse (R-Corvallis) says "We can trust Kurt Schrader to be a good steward of our tax dollars."

Schrader has earned all the major endorsements of both the business and labor organizations in Oregon's 5th Congressional District. Mike Erickson does not have a single major organization or newspaper endorsement. The voters in Oregon will not be fooled by Mike's cheap negative TV attacks.
